Sony has taken a strong stance in the lawsuit alleging that Tencent’s game “Light of Motiram” copied its “Horizon” series. The company called Tencent’s defense “nonsense” and stated that the damage caused by the Sony Tencent Horizon copy has already been done and is ongoing.
The Latest Situation in the Sony Tencent Horizon Copy Lawsuit
Sony does not accept Tencent’s delay to 2027 as a defense. On the contrary, it emphasizes that the delay came after Sony filed the lawsuit. According to the company, “The damage has been done and is ongoing.” Sony also claims that Tencent continues to promote its “infringing game” and accepts no responsibility for its actions.
According to the lawsuit, Sony accuses Tencent of playing a “company game” to avoid liability. While Sony hides behind brands like Aurora Studios, Level Infinite, and Proxima Beta, Sony insists that Tencent Holdings is “at the helm.” Crucially, Sony’s accusation of copying the main character, Aloy, isn’t limited to just one character. They argue that this move is an attempt to capitalize on Aloy’s reputation, a symbol of the PlayStation brand.
Sony added that its allegations aren’t limited to itself. They stated that numerous journalists and Horizon fans have noticed the “striking similarities” between the two games. Public opinion has described “Light of Motiram” as a “massive Horizon copy” and a “blatant imitation.” Therefore, Sony has asked the court to reject Tencent’s request to dismiss the lawsuit. The litigation is ongoing.
